RE: Spring 2012 Final Examinations
The Spring 2012 Final Examination Schedule accompanies this memorandum. Final exam period is from Tuesday, April 24 to Monday, May 7, 2012.
Below is some important information about the exam process. Please read this memo, along with the Exam Procedures found on the Law School web site (click on Academics, then look under Exams). If you have any questions, you should contact the Office of Student Affairs, not your professor.
Please remember that it is your responsibility to know and to follow strictly the Examination Procedures. Failure to comply with the Examination Procedures may adversely affect your grade.
A. SCHEDULED EXAMS
A table of scheduled exams is attached to this memo. This table also shows the dates and times of Free Slot sessions (see below). The examination room schedule will be made available just prior to the start of the exams. Please arrive for scheduled exams at least 20 minutes prior to the start time.
B. FINAL EXAM CONFLICTS
Two exams that begin within a 30-hour period will be considered a conflict. A student with an exam conflict must take one of those exams at its scheduled time and may elect to take the other exam during a free slot after its scheduled time. Having a scheduled exam on each of three consecutive calendar days is also a conflict. A conflict between a take-home exam and a scheduled exam will be considered only when the deadline for return of the take-home exam is fixed on a specific calendar day, that day conflicts with a scheduled exam, and the take-home exam is administered over a brief time period.
All students with an examination conflict who wish to defer an examination to a subsequent free slot must complete and return an Examination Conflict Form by Monday, April 2, 2012 to the Office of Student Affairs, Suite 103, Barrack Hall. Examination Conflict Forms are available in Suite 103. After April 2nd, you will be notified by e-mail of the decision regarding your conflict.
C. TAKE-HOME EXAMS
If your professor is giving a take-home examination, it will be listed on the attached Take-Home Schedule. Take-home exams scheduled over an extended period of time will not create an exam conflict. If you have a question about whether or not a take-home creates a conflict, fill out and turn in an Examination Conflict Form and you will be contacted. As the attached list shows, many take-home examinations have an established distribution date and time and an established collection deadline. A number of take home exams are available on a more flexible basis because they are time stamped to show when you picked them up from Exam Central (see below) and time stamped again to show when you turn them in. Please note that you can pick up or turn in take home exams only when Exam Central is open (see Exam Central Hours below), so you need to bear that factor in mind if you plan to use the full amount of time allowed for the exams.
Time stamped take home exams will be available for pick up as follows:
48 hour time stamped exams: available only on April 24, 25**, April 30, May 1, 2**
74 hour time stamped exams: available only on April 24***, 27, 30, May 1***, 4****
**Exam must be picked up before 6:00 p.m. because Exam Central closes at 6:00 p.m. on the date these would be due.
***Exam must be picked up before 4:00 p.m. because Exam Central closes at 6:00 p.m. on the date these would be due.
****74 HOUR TIMED STAMPED EXAMS THAT ARE PICKED UP ON FRIDAY, MAY 4TH ARE DUE NO LATER THAN 8 P.M. ON MONDAY, MAY 7TH.
D. UNSCHEDULED/FREE SLOT EXAMS
A list of unscheduled exams is also attached to this memo. Unscheduled exams may only be taken during a period noted as a free slot on the exam schedule. You need not give advance notice of the date and time you intend to take your unscheduled exam.
E. EXAM ROOM SCHEDULE
The examination room schedule will be available just prior to the start of examinations. Please check the monitors on each floor of the Law School buildings.
F. TAKING EXAMS ON NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS
Students may type Scheduled and Unscheduled exams on their notebook computers.
Only the SofTest exam security software provided by the Law School may be used by students to take their exams on their notebook computers.
If you took your exams on your computer successfully during the Fall, you can continue to use the SofTest Program on your computer for your spring exams. If you had problems with the Software, bought a new computer, or had any major problems with or changes to your computer, then you should download new software. Students who want to take exams on computer for the first time this spring are welcome to sign up as new users. An e-mail will be sent soon concerning sign-up and orientation procedures.
Students must use their own computers. You may not use computers from the Law PC Loaner Program because their availability cannot be guaranteed.
This Spring, you must upload your answers by wireless Internet connection at the end of each exam. Please ensure that: (a) you have wireless capability on your computer; (b) your computer can access the Temple wireless network. If you have not already registered and configured your computer for wireless, please contact stephen.app@temple.edu as soon as possible for instructions.
