Philadelphia's Public Interest Community

Over 30 public interest legal organizations are located in Philadelphia, and these organizations form a community of dedicated and talented lawyers who work to bridge the justice gap for the city's neediest residents. These agencies range from local legal services porviders like Philadelphia Legal Assistance to national centers such as the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women. Juvenile Law Center, co-founded by Temple Law graduates in 1975, has won national attention for their work to uncover the judicial corruption in Luzerne County and were chosen as one of eight organzations to receive the prestigious international John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. These agencies provide Temple law students with rich, diverse, cutting edge experience assisting clients, effecting policy, and furthering equal justice.
