Laura H. Carnell Professor of Law


Professor Bartow has been a member of the faculty since 1973 and was named Laura H. Carnell Professor of Law in 1997. He is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, a position he held from 1989 to 1999 and from 2004 to the present. He was Acting Dean during the spring semester of 1997.

The Class of 1985 honored Professor Bartow with the George P. Williams award for excellence in teaching. In 1981, he received the Lindback Award for distinguished teaching and in 2007, the Temple Law Alumni Association honored him with the Murray H. Shusterman Outstanding Faculty Award. In 1991, he was selected as the first recipient of the I. Herman Stern Chair in Law, which recognizes faculty members for their achievements as teachers.

Professor Bartow taught children with learning disabilities at the Green Tree School in Germantown while attending Temple Law School's evening division program. He practiced law with Ballard, Spahr, Andrews and Ingersoll and he received his LL.M. from Yale Law School.

Professor Bartow and his wife Susan have three children, Melanie, Anna and Katharine, and six grandchildren, Maya, Ethan, Owen, Sarah, Rebecca, and Oliver.
