Philadelphia

The city of Philadelphia is an important part of the Temple Law School experience. Students' academic programs are enhanced daily by the cultural and intellectual life of this beautiful and vibrant city. And Temple students are not alone in this experience - with 300,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in 80 regional colleges and universities, Philadelphia boasts the second largest student concentration on the East Coast.

Philadelphia is an ideal place to pursue a career in the law. The city is home to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, state appellate and trial courts, and numerous federal, state, and municipal agencies. As the fifth-largest metropolitan region in the country, Philadelphia is a thriving legal marketplace with countless law firms, a robust municipal government, and hundreds of other legal employers. In addition, Temple students are able to take advantage of the network of more than 6,000 alumni who live and work in the five-county area.

Despite its size, Philadelphia is a very livable city and enjoys a rich diversity of residential neighborhoods, many of which function like small towns with their own character, architectural style, schools, parks, restaurants, and shops. There's no better way to experience Philadelphia than to walk through the streets of this "city of neighborhoods." From the cobblestoned streets of Society Hill to the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Rittenhouse Square, the easily navigable grid and compact blocks of the downtown area make Philadelphia a walker's delight.

In Philadelphia, it's also easy to leave the city behind without ever leaving the city limits. Outlying neighborhoods like Chestnut Hill and Mount Airy offer the ambience of a country village, and Fairmount Park provides more than 10,000 acres of lush green meadows, wooded hillsides, and sparkling waterways. The city supports a thriving bike culture as well as safe, scenic routes for joggers, runners, skaters, and equestrians.

The city is also known for its vibrant cultural and social life. The Avenue of the Arts serves as an anchor for the city's rich offerings in theater and music, while restaurants and clubs abound in Center City, Society Hill, Manayunk, and on the Delaware waterfront.

Philadelphia is also a major sports town, boasting a wealth of professional sports teams including the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and a new major league men's soccer team, the Union. The city also supports a wide variety of community recreational leagues for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
