Degree Requirements

  • Coursework completed  over 15 months of full-time study, organized on a quarterly basis
  • 30 credits
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher and recommendation of faculty

Required Courses

  • Legal English (semester long program in Beijing beginning in July)
  • All Basic Courses (see below)

Other Requirements

  • Second summer in Philadelphia

Focus on Commercial Law or Criminal Law

As discussed below, the Beijing Master of Laws Program involves basic courses and elective courses. Upon completion of basic courses, students may select additional courses on business and comparative law, criminal law, or both. Thus, the Master of Laws Program is suitable for lawyers who wish to develop their commercial practice skills as well as for government officials who wish to develop their knowledge on criminal justice and trial advocacy.

The Master of Laws is designed to meet the growing demand for lawyers trained in global legal issues. The Program enables students to shape a course of study that fits their personal goals and interests.

Courses in the Program are offered in two categories: Basic Courses and Advanced Courses. Students are required to complete all Basic Courses. The Advanced Courses listed are representative of the types of courses that may be offered as electives. A special concentration in criminal law is offered for criminal law professionals.
