Program Overview
Judicial clerkships aren’t just for law school graduates anymore. Temple’s three credit State Court Honors Internship Program places second-year day and third-year evening or part-time day students as clerks with judges in the First Judicial District of the Court of Common Pleas of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Student clerks spend approximately ten hours a week in chambers, gaining valuable experience working alongside judges and their full-time clerks. Students draft orders, research issues, prepare bench memoranda, and observe judicial proceedings. In addition to chambers hours, the program features a classroom component, taught by First Judicial District Court of Common Pleas President Judge Sheila Woods-Skipper, Hon. Annette M. Rizzo (Ret.), and Professor Lynda Henry that focuses on current issues impacting the state courts.
Selection Process
Placement in the State Court Honors Internship Program is highly regarded and competitive. Students interested in the program must submit a completed application, resume, and writing sample. Successful applicants are chosen through a faculty committee review of these materials and are matched with a judge.
