Intellectual property law addresses the many issues that deal with the intangible products of the human mind: what rights owners have over such products, whether those rights are transferable, how they are protected against duplication or appropriation by others, and, most importantly, whether such products can even be owned at all. A rapidly increasing fraction of the world's wealth is now embodied in intellectual property. The study of this area has become essential to the practice of law in the 21st century.

Traditionally, intellectual property law has been comprised of three major subfields: patent law, copyright law, and trademark law. Today, various technologies have expanded these boundaries. Temple has responded by integrating bodies of law that bear on the rapid expansion of the Internet, electronic commerce, biotechnologies, and other newly emerging legal issues into the intellectual property and technology law curriculum. Temple Law School has been a pioneer in this uncharted territory, uniquely preparing its students to learn and succeed in the virtual world.

Temple's stellar full-time faculty is complemented by a diverse adjunct faculty, who are practitioners from leading intellectual property firms. Students also benefit from an active group of alumni and local practitioners who are involved with the Temple Intellectual Property Law Network, providing student mentoring and advising faculty on curricular enhancements.
