First Panel - 2 CLE Credits (convened by Professor James Shellenberger): "Pre-Trial Procedure at the International Criminal Court: A Comparison between International and U.S. Criminal Procedure Laws" The panel will compare and contrast ICC and U.S. criminal procedures, with a particular emphasis on the role of the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber as it has evolved in the Court's early cases.
Second Panel - 2 CLE Credits (convened by Professor Margaret deGuzman): "The Role of The ICC in the Global Legal Order: Making the Rome Statute's Vision of Global Justice a Reality" The panel will assess the contributions of the ICC in its first 10 years to the quest for global justice, examining the Court's emerging jurisprudence on such issues as jurisdiction and admissibility as well as the prosecutors' decisions about which situations and cases to investigate and prosecute. Panelists will address such important and controversial issues as whether the ICC is excessively focused on Africa, whether the prosecutor is focused on the most important cases, and whether the Court is adequately addressing the needs of victims.
