The LL.M. for foreign-trained lawyers program was established in 1974, demonstrating that Temple has been educating international lawyers with great success for over 30 years. Today, there are over 600 LL.M. graduates using their Temple legal education to practice and teach throughout the world.

Students

Our students bring great experience, legal knowledge, and cultures to Temple Law. They come from countries all over the world such as Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Korea, Liberia, Mexico, Poland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Venezuela.

Some are practicing lawyers with experience at law firms. Some students are government officials whose actions influence the laws of their home countries. Others are legal and business professionals representing many industries and specializations. Despite their different backgrounds, they form a tight-knit community that enriches the law school classes and student activities.

Alumni

LL.M. students form lasting professional and personal relationships with others in the student body and faculty. The Temple experience does not end with graduation - the Temple Law Alumni Association has overseas chapters in China, Japan, Thailand, and Taiwan and expects to open chapters in other countries in the near future. All graduates receive Temple Esq., the law school's alumni newsletter, which keeps them abreast of Temple's news and their colleagues' accomplishments.

Bar Examination Information

Each of the 50 states in the United States has a Board of Law Examiners which sets the requirements for bar admission in that state. Students should contact the appropriate state's Board of Law Examiners directly to obtain specific bar admission information.  For more information about state bar exams, please refer to the web site of the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

Many Temple LL.M. graduates have taken the New York bar examination. Foreign-trained lawyers are not required to study at law schools in the State of New York to qualify for the New York bar exam. Eligibility in New York is based on an individual applicant's foreign law school study and enrollment at an ABA-approved U.S. law school such as Temple Law.
