J.D./M.B.A. Program

Temple University's Beasley School of Law and the Fox School of Business and Management cooperatively offer a dual degree program leading to the conferral of the Juris Doctor (J.D.) and the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees upon graduation. The J.D./M.B.A. program is open only to Temple J.D. students.

The J.D./M.B.A. program offers you an opportunity to earn a J.D. and an M.B.A. with fewer hours of course work than would be required if the two degrees were earned separately. Candidates receive two separate degrees upon graduation: a J.D. from the School of Law and an M.B.A. from the School of Business and Management. Temple offers a J.D./M.B.A. with a concentration in Legal Studies. The graduation requirements from each school must be met separately. A J.D./M.B.A. student must complete all requirements for both degrees before either degree can be awarded.

Admissions to the J.D./M.B.A. Program

Prospective J.D./M.B.A. students must apply separately to both the School of Law and the School of Business and Management following the admissions procedures established by each school and be admitted to each program separately.

There are two ways to enter the J.D./M.B.A. program:

  1. Apply to both the School of Law and the School of Business and Management simultaneously following the admissions procedures established by each school and be admitted separately.
  2. Apply to Temple School of Law and, during the first year of study for a full-time law student or second year of study for a part-time law student, apply to the M.B.A. Program, following admissions procedures established by the School of Business and Management.

Once both schools accept the candidate's application, the student must send a letter of intent to both the School of Law and School of Business and Management. This notifies both schools of the dual degree status. A student may not register for any courses in the J.D./M.B.A. program until both schools have received a letter of intent.

Click here to view the sample Intention to Enter Letter.

The J.D./M.B.A. program is open to any Temple law student who has not completed any 500 level M.B.A. courses (or advanced graduate business courses) at Temple or any other Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) institution.

For more specific information on each program, please review the J.D. admissions procedures and the M.B.A. admissions procedures.

Tuition and Financial Assistance

Day and evening J.D. students who pay a flat tuition rate and are enrolled in the J.D./M.B.A. program will pay the prevailing law school tuition rates and fees throughout the program except during the summer session when all students pay tuition on a "per credit" basis regardless of the school in which they take summer classes. Students attending the 10-week intensive core curriculum program during the summer will be billed in accordance with the M.B.A. per credit tuition rates

Part-time day and evening J.D. students (those students who pay on a per credit basis) pay per credit for both J.D. and M.B.A. courses regardless of the semester in which they are registered. For each semester you are enrolled in the J.D./M.B.A. program, you must complete a J.D./M.B.A. Billing Information Sheet (available in room 710 of the Klein law building) and return the form to the School of Law Financial Aid Office, Room 101, Barrack Hall. Students are eligible for financial assistance from both the School of Law and the School of Business and Management in accordance with the individual school's guidelines.

All J.D./M.B.A. students are responsible for any late registration, late payment, installment payment, and graduation fees associated with both the School of Law and the School of Business and Management.

For information on tuition rates at the School of Law and the School of Business and Management, please visit the Temple University Bursar's Office web site.

The LL.M. and M.B.A.

Overview

LL.M. students with an interest in business and management may wish to earn an M.B.A. degree from the Fox School of Business and Management. Because Temple's tuition is so reasonable, you can earn both degrees in approximately three years for the amount you might pay to earn only an LL.M. degree at other institutions.

After earning your LL.M. you can complete the M.B.A. in an accelerated 16-month course of study. The 18-credit Business Core Curriculum can be completed in 10 weeks of intensive study from June-August, at which point you can complete the advanced Business Curriculum in two academic semesters and one summer session, graduating the following August. The M.B.A. requires 54 credits of course work. If you prefer not to accelerate the M.B.A. program, you can complete it over two years of study.
