Welcome from the Deans  院长致辞

Thank you for your interest in the Temple University Beasley School of Law and Tsinghua University School of Law Master of Laws (LL.M.) program. As we enter into the 10th anniversary of the program in 2009, we?d like to share with you the jubilation we feel about the great success of the program and to also extend an invitation to you to apply for admission to the program.

Temple and Tsinghua have been working together closely with every effort to make the program the best in the nation. Many in the program have found that the program offers much more than a degree: it trains you as a lawyer, giving you essential knowledge and skills needed in international legal practice and it also helps build up a global network in both the legal community and the government sector. The program is approved by both the Ministry of Education of China and the American Bar Association (ABA).

Courses in a variety of American and International Law are taught entirely in English by an exceptional faculty from Temple and Tsinghua, who are dedicated to academic excellence in legal education, and by a select group of lawyers who have great accomplishments in their legal practice and are highly reputable in their areas of specialization.

The unique strength of the program is that the richness and diversity of program faculty, the comprehensive and practice-oriented course study, and the extensive resources provide students with one-of -a-kind opportunities for professional growth. It further equips the students with the analytical abilities and legal advocacy capacities that are required to deal with complicated legal issues, especially in international settings.

A great asset of the program is its increasingly large alumni body. As of November 2008, a total of 301 students from diverse backgrounds have graduated from the program. Many of the program graduates are working as private lawyers at Chinese and foreign law firms, and as in-house counsel in multinational companies. According to a recent survey, among the program graduates, more than 50% had been promoted after their graduation from the program, and about 80% of the rest believe that the program is helpful in their future promotion.

In addition, the Temple Law Alumni Association of China now has more than 550 members throughout the country from all of our various programs. It serves as a platform to promote alumni activities, and as a channel for all members to communicate among themselves, and with the University and the Law School. For more information about our alumni and our program, please visit www.templelaw.net.

Temple and Tsinghua are committed to excellence in legal education and to working with you to ensure you?re your educational experience is rewarding. We welcome you to join us by becoming a part of this dynamic program.

Academic Program 法学硕士项目

Overview

The Program's curriculum is designed to equip Chinese lawyers and other legal professionals trained outside of the United States with the knowledge and skills essential to handling legal matters in a global context. The curriculum, developed by the Program's Academic Advisory Committee of leading U.S. and Chinese leading law professors and legal scholars, focuses on American and international law with particular emphasis in criminal and business law areas. The Program is also open to non-Chinese students.

The primary objective of the Program is to educate the next generation of lawyers for international legal practice. Classes are taught in English by international faculty members from Temple and Tsinghua Universities, as well as adjunct faculty from U.S. law schools and experienced American lawyers. All classes are conducted in the style typically used in U.S. law schools that encourages students to participate in class discussions to develop their own ability to identify, analyze, and solve legal problems. Students in the Program are also trained in legal research and writing in an environment of advanced information technology, and have access to the Lexis and Westlaw legal databases during their program of study.

The Program begins in late July with an intensive legal English training session. Classes meet at Tsinghua law school in Beijing with the exception of the summer after the first year, when students visit the United States for a two-month summer session at Temple's campus in Philadelphia. Graduates of the Program receive a Master of Laws degree from Temple University and also receive a Certificate from Tsinghua University School of Law.

The Program is approved by the Ministry of Education of China, the State Council Degree Office of China, and the American Bar Association. The Program's degree is be recognized in both the United States and China.

Philadelphia  费城介绍

Students in the Master of Laws Program come to Temple's main campus in Philadelphia for a summer session after completing four semesters of classes at Tsinghua. The LLM Program is enhanced by the cultural and intellectual life of the nation's fifth largest city. Philadelphia is known as the birthplace of liberty, as the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were both drafted and signed in Philadelphia, and it was the nation's capital city from 1790 to 1800. In addition, Philadelphia offers many enjoyable cultural, sports, and entertainment options, adding to Temple's already rich array of extracurricular activities.

Students visit America's most historic mile, including Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the National Constitution Center. The legal scholar will find that the city has all that one would expect to find in a major urban center. Philadelphia is home to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and state appellate and trial courts. The city also contains countless law firms and dozens of federal, state, and municipal agencies.

Although Philadelphia's NBA team (the Philadelphia 76ers) is well known in China, Philadelphia has a full range of other professional sports teams, including the baseball team (the Philadelphia Phillies) that won the 2008 World Series. Students who visit Philadelphia for the summer session will have the opportunity to attend a Phillies game.
