The Graduate Tax Program

Since 1972, the Graduate Tax Program at Temple University Beasley School of Law has offered an internationally renowned Master of Laws in Taxation that provides new and experienced lawyers with a strong foundation in tax law as well as opportunities to develop skills and build connections essential to successful practice. In partnership with Temple University Fox School of Business, the Graduate Tax Program also offers a Master of Science in Taxation with the same exceptional quality designed for accountants. In addition, students can earn certificates in estate planning or employee benefits, and gain expertise in these areas, either as part of getting an LL.M. or MST degree or independently. Lawyers and accountants who want to deepen their understanding of tax and achieve their professional goals choose the Graduate Tax Program.

  • I first decided to enroll in Temple University Beasley School of Law to enhance my law practice through an LL.M. in Taxation and Estate Planning Certificate. I accomplished that and so much more during my time in the program. I received a high-quality education, from Temple’s excellent faculty, who brought the theoretical concepts to life based on their real-world experience. I expanded my professional network to include a diverse array of tax professionals and had access to countless resources, memberships, and conferences. I participated in the prestigious American Bar Association Law Student Tax Challenge, where I presented oral argument in front of distinguished tax professionals and tax court judges. Thanks to my experience at Temple, I was offered a position with the law firm where I will continue to put my education to good use.

  • Temple’s LL.M. program in tax helped me develop a solid technical foundation, connect with prominent local tax practitioners in law and accounting firms, and gain exposure to every major sub-discipline in the field of tax law. The program’s flexibility allowed me to complete my degree while working full-time at a large law firm in the city, and I frequently applied what I learned in the classroom to my practice. Without question, my experience in the program was absolutely crucial to my career as a tax lawyer.

  • After years of handling civil rights matters and then joining the City of Philadelphia Law Department in the Tax Unit, I enrolled in the Temple Law LL.M. in Taxation and Employee Benefits Certificate Program. This was probably one of, if not the best, decisions I made regarding my career. My time at Temple equipped me with a solid education in both tax law and employee benefits, which is where I wanted to focus my practice. I was able to use the knowledge and skills I learned to acquire an in-house counsel role in a Fortune 500 company! I can say without a doubt, pursing my LL.M. in Taxation at Temple changed the trajectory of my career.

Message from the TAX FACULTY

Welcome to Temple’s Graduate Tax Program. Since 1972, Temple has been helping students advance a wide variety of careers in tax. Our graduates work at large as well as boutique law firms, accounting firms, financial institutions, in-house legal departments, non-profits, and at all levels of government. We are committed to preparing students for real-world practice and do it in a way that is both affordable and convenient.

That starts with our nationally renowned faculty. Our skills- and problem-focused curriculum leverages their scholarship and practice experience, bringing the material to life. And because our class sizes are small, students are able to participate and get to know their professors. The program is rich in educational opportunities outside the classroom from lectures, to networking events, to externships and volunteer opportunities. And there are tremendous resources available between our faculty, graduates, and Career Services office to take the next step in your career and beyond.

The education and opportunities that we offer make the difference in our students’ professional lives. If you have any questions, complete a Request More Information form on the page for each program or contact us directly at intllaw@temple.edu or 215-204-1448. I hope you decide to join us.
