The University of Lucerne defines itself as a center of research and teaching that provides focused academic study programs and shares its findings with the outside world. It offers one of the broadest range of courses in English at Master’s level in Switzerland. Students enjoy the freedom of choice between multiple courses clustered mainly in the fields of human rights and international economic law and taught by renowned national and international lecturers. The university is a recognized partner of other research and teaching institutions, yet retains its own independent profile. Lucerne is located in the German-speaking region of central northern Switzerland and is the capital of the Canton of Lucerne and the largest city in Central Switzerland,with around 78,000 inhabitants.
