Transfer & Visiting Students

Applicants Seeking to Transfer to Temple Law School

Temple Law School accepts into the J.D. program a limited number of transfer students from law schools that are ABA approved and are members of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).

The deadline for submitting a transfer application is June 15th of the calendar year in which study is to commence. Applicants must have completed their first year of law school and their class rank and transcript at the end of the first year must be available before the Faculty Admissions Committee can consider a transfer application. For this reason, transfer decisions are typically not made before mid-July.

If admitted as a transfer student, we will review your current law school transcript and will notify you which of the courses you have taken and the number of credits which will transfer to Temple Law School.  Only first-year course work (a maximum of 32 credits) is accepted for purposes of granting advanced standing to transfer applicants.

Please note – due to the current situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Temple Law School will accept applications for transfer status from candidates who currently attend a law school which has converted to a Pass/Fail grading system for the spring 2020 semester.  For students who are admitted as a transfer student for the fall 2020 semester, we will accept for credit courses completed at your current law school under a Pass/Fail grading system.

The following documents must be submitted by each applicant for admission as a transfer student:

  • Completed application form and $65 application fee;
  • Personal statement outlining the reasons for applying to transfer to Temple Law School;
  • A letter from the applicant’s current school certifying that the applicant has completed the first year, is in good standing, and is eligible to continue at that law school;
  • The applicant’s class rank at the end of the first year of law school;
  • An official transcript from the applicant’s current law school showing grades for all completed courses;
  • A Credential Assembly Report (CAS). The CAS Report may be sent to Temple Law School from LSAC, or the applicant may have a copy of the first page of the CAS Report sent to Temple from their current law school. A copy of the CAS Report may already be on file with the Admissions Office if the applicant has previously applied to Temple Law for admission as a first-year student.

The transfer application is available beginning March 1, 2020 and the application deadline is June 15, 2020.

Applicants Seeking to Visit Temple Law School

Visiting (non-matriculating) students at Temple receive their J.D. degree from the school in which they are currently enrolled. Students may apply for admission as visiting students for their FINAL year of course work only and must enter during the fall term.  Visiting students receive their degrees from their home schools.

The following documents must be submitted by an applicant for admission as a visiting student:

  • Completed application form and $65 application fee;
  • Personal statement outlining the reasons for seeking visiting status at Temple Law School;
  • A letter from the applicant’s current school indicating that the applicant has permission to visit Temple Law School and that the home school will accept all course work successfully completed at Temple Law School;
  • An official transcript from the applicant’s current law school showing grades for all completed courses;

Applicants for visiting status must demonstrate the ability to complete successfully the academic requirements of Temple Law School.

The visiting application is available beginning March 1, 2020 and the application deadline is June 15, 2020.
