James A. Shellenberger, Professor of Law

Professor Shellenberger is a full tenured professor at Temple University Beasley School of Law.  He teaches a variety of criminal law and criminal procedure courses, and has taught several other subjects including for several years the Law School’s bar exam preparation course.  In addition to his faculty position, Professor Shellenberger has served in several administrative positions at the Law School, including Assistant Dean for Students, Director of the Legal Research and Writing Program, and Director of the Academic Success Program.  Professor Shellenberger taught in the Law School’s semester program in Tokyo, Japan and several times directed and taught in the Law School’s summer program in Rome, Italy.

Professor Shellenberger earned his JD from Villanova University School of Law in 1972.  Immediately after law school, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia, and then practiced in the litigation department of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis.  He was Chief Staff Counsel for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Criminal Procedural Rules Committee before starting his law teaching career.  He also served for more than 10 years as Co-Reporter for the Model Criminal Jury Instruction Committee of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
