Temple Professor of Law Rafael Porrata-Doria was recently installed as a member of the Academia Puertorriqueña de Jurisprudencia y Legislación. Since their founding in 1985, the Puerto Rican Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation has been dedicated to the promotion of research that contributes to law reform and progress in Puerto Rico.

Professor Porrata-Doria, who teaches Business Associations, Securities Regulation, International Commercial Transactions, Comparative Law, Contracts, Contract Remedies, Corporate Law, Law of the European Union, International Trade and Investment, Advanced Securities Regulation, and other courses in the areas of international and business law, is one of only seven scholars outside of Puerto Rico to be recognized by the academy.

Professor Porrata-Doria is a Yale Law Alumni and has been teaching at Temple Law School since 1983. Having been admitted to both the Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico bars in the same year, Professor Porrata-Doria has substantial experience with both American and Latin American legal systems. Many of his publications focus on the civil and economic development of both regions.

“The Academia is an outstanding scholarly organization that, through its work harmonizing common and civil law principles, has greatly contributed to the development and modernization of the law in Puerto Rico and elsewhere,” remarked Porrata-Doria. “I’m very honored to have been asked to join them in this important work.”

Professor Porrata-Doria has also served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations throughout the nation. He is Chair of the Hispanic Association of Contractors and Enterprises, a Philadelphia economic development organization, and past Chair of the Association of Yale Alumni, Yale University’s national alumni organization.
